Lubbock – Workforce Solutions South Plains is proud to recognize University Medical Center as the region’s 2023 Local Employer of Excellence. UMC accepted the award at the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) 26th Annual Texas Workforce Conference held Nov. 29 – Dec. 1, 2023, in Houston. Local Workforce Development Boards select employers who make a positive impact on workers, the community, and the state through their partnerships with Texas Workforce Solutions. During the last 40 years, UMC Health System has become the region’s trusted source for quality healthcare. Together with UMC Physicians, UMC has seen an increase in market share, demand for service, and growth in reputation. UMC’s has more than 4,600 employees and has partnered with the local Workforce Solutions Center to assist with their recruiting efforts. UMC performs weekly hiring events, work experience programs, and utilizes WorkinTexas.com as a key job board in their hiring practices. UMC recruiting staff addresses unemployment classes and center visitors routinely with available position informaiton and their commitment to utilize community services to hire and retain their workforce is second to none. “Texas employers know the Lone Star State is the best place to start and grow a business,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza. “The Employer of Excellence Award is a tremendous achievement for Texas employers like UMC to showcase their dedication to employees in the number one state in the nation.” Workforce Solutions South Plains is among 28 Local Workforce Development Boards located throughout the state. The Board serves Bailey, Cochran, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, King, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Terry, and Yoakum counties. Through partnerships with TWC and their communities, Workforce Boards meet the needs of Texas employers and workers through locally-designed, market-driven workforce development initiatives and services.
